SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. â The National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Minnesota Swarm today named Matt McConnell play-by-play announcer, Howard Green television analyst and Mike Greenlay sideline reporter and intermission host for Swarm games telecast on Fox Sports Net (FSN) North.
McConnell was named the television voice of the Minnesota Wild on August 12, 2003 and has been an NHL broadcaster for the last 11 years. Prior to his arrival in the Twin Cities, McConnell was the original television broadcaster for the Atlanta Thrashers for four seasons. Prior to joining the Thrashers, he spent three seasons (1996-99) as the radio play-by-play broadcaster for the Pittsburgh Penguins. McConnell also served in the same capacity for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim from 1993 to 1996.
Green is a 12-year broadcast television veteran of the New England area. He most recently served as sports anchor at WSBK-TV/WFXT-TV in Boston for seven years (1993-1999). Green also served as sports director and anchor at WPXT-TV in Portland, Maine (1992-93) and sports anchor at WVII-TV in Bangor, Maine (1989-92). The lifelong lacrosse player and enthusiast served as the radio play-by-play announcer for the Boston Blazers professional indoor lacrosse team in 1996.
Greenlay was named the Minnesota Wild television analyst on August 13, 2002. The former hockey goaltender served as radio analyst for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim for two seasons (1999-2001) prior to his arrival in Minnesota. Greenlay began his broadcast career with the Houston Aeros in 1995 serving as the team's radio and television play-by-play announcer. He also served as the Nashville Predators radio analyst during its inaugural 1998-99 campaign while also working as a television analyst for several networks.
FSN North will telecast the Minnesota Swarm's home opener against the Buffalo Bandits on Friday, January 21, a home game against the Anaheim Storm on Friday, January 28 and the Friday, February 11 contest against the Toronto Rock at Xcel Energy Center. FSN North will air all three games on a tape-delayed basis immediately following the conclusion of University of Minnesota men's hockey games. All three Swarm games will also be rebroadcast on FSN North the following Monday at 12:00 PM.
