Minnesota Swarm News Release

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The National Lacrosse League's Minnesota Swarm today announced that F Josh Gillam and G Zach Higgins have been placed on the team's 23-man active roster.

Gillam spent the first 10 games of the 2013 season on the Swarm's holdout list while he was overseas playing professional hockey. Higgins was called up from the team's practice squad, and agreed to a one-year deal with the club this afternoon.

Gillam, 24, recorded 13 points (4g, 9a) and 21 loose balls in six games during his rookie season with the Swarm in 2012. The lefty forward notched a goal in the Swarm's final three regular season games, which included a career-high four points (1g, 3a) in a 14-9 home victory against Washington on March 14. The Swarm selected the Peterborough, Ontario native in the second round (18th overall) of the 2010 NLL Entry Draft.

"When we brought Josh in last year, he had a positive impact on our club and provided stability," Swarm associate general manager and head coach Joe Sullivan said. "He's coming in with a ton of energy, and a real enthusiasm to get playing. We think he just scratched the surface of his ability last year, and we're looking for him to have an immediate impact with us this season."

Higgins, 22, started the season on the Swarm's practice squad after signing with the team as a rookie free agent this summer. As a goalie at Davenport University from 2009-12, the Courtice, Ontario native was a two-time 1st Team All-CCLA award winner and finished his four-year career with a 30-8 record. In 2011, Higgins was named the CCLA Defensive Player of the Year after posting an 8-1 record and an 8.45 GAA.

"We wanted to make sure Zach had the opportunity to travel with us, so moving him to the active roster will allow him to practice with us on the road, and be a bigger part of our team," Sullivan said. "He's done everything that we've asked of him, and granting him this opportunity is a big part of our developmental program."

The moves are currently pending league approval.
