Minnesota Swarm News Release
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Swarm today announced that the team has traded T Andrew Suitor to the New England Black Wolves in exchange for T Joel White and a second-round selection in the 2017 NLL Entry Draft.
"I'd like to thank Andrew for all of his contributions over the years both on and off the field," Swarm owner and governor John Arlotta said. "Moves like these are never easy to make, but our record the past two seasons has not met the expectations of our organization. We're excited to add Joel White to the Swarm organization; Joel is a talented, young player who has great leadership skills and has shown improvement during each of his four seasons in the NLL."
White, 25, served as New England's captain this season and is in the midst of his fourth year in the NLL. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound, righty transition player led the Black Wolves with 117 loose balls this season, which ranks fourth in the league. He also ranked first on the team with 16 forced turnovers, which is one-shy of a career-high. The Syracuse University product has excelled on the offensive end as well in 2015, registering a personal-best seven goals to go along with three assists in 10 games.
In three games against Minnesota this season, White filled up the stat sheet on the defensive end, collecting 33 loose balls and 11 forced turnovers. During the Black Wolves' 10-9 win against the Swarm at The Hive on March 14, White scored two unassisted goals - one of which was shorthanded - to help fuel a comeback victory.
Last season, White appeared in 17 contests with the Philadelphia Wings and collected 128 loose balls as well as four points (1g, 3a). Over his four-year NLL career, the Cortland, N.Y. native has notched 29 points (10g, 19a), 366 loose balls, and 54 forced turnovers in 49 games. White originally started his career with Rochester in 2011, and was selected in the second round (10th overall) by the Knighthawks.
During his collegiate career, White was a three-time All-American and a two-time national champion at Syracuse University. He currently is the Orange's all-time leader in ground balls (283), points by a defensive player (28) and goals (18) by a defensive player. In the summertime, White plays in the MLL with the Rochester Rattlers and is teammates with Jordan MacIntosh and Miles Thompson.
Suitor, 25, spent four-and-a-half seasons with the Swarm, and was named the team's captain in 2012. Over his career with Minnesota, the Orangeville, Ontario native appeared in 64 games and totaled 75 points (42g, 33a), 428 loose balls and 87 forced turnovers. In 2012, Suitor was named the NLL Transition Player of the Year after posting career-highs in points (26), goals (15), assists (11) and loose balls (120). Minnesota selected the 5-foot-11, 190-pound, righty transition player in the first round (fourth overall) of the 2010 NLL Entry Draft.
The Swarm returns to Ho-Chunk Nation Field at Xcel Energy Center on Friday, April 3 to close out the regular season series against New England during Family Night at The Hive. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT. The first 1,000 fans will receive Swarm bracelets courtesy of Swannys. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-888-MN-SWARM or by visiting www.mnswarm.com. The Swarm also faces the Rochester Knighthawks (7-4) for their final road game next Saturday evening at Blue Cross Arena at 6:30 p.m. CT.
