
Minnesota Slamma Jamma sign Paul Peterson

Minneapolis, MN. The Minnesota Slamma Jamma, one of the ABA's 2005 expansion teams, today announced that veteran recording artist, Paul "St. Paul" Peterson has been signed to produce the team's theme song. The Slamma Jamma announced Peterson's selection to coincide with the worldwide release of Peterson's new CD, "Everything." The sold-out CD release concert will be held Friday, February 4th at 9PM in Minneapolis. The Slamma Jamma have retained Peterson to deliver his award-winning creative services to release on a stand-alone single for Summer 2005 with song proceeds benefitting select, youth-focused Minnesota non-profits.
Peterson was discovered at the young age of seventeen by Prince and appeared in his 1984 Academy Award-Winning film, "Purple Rain" as the new keyboard player in the chart-topping R & B group The Time. His career is highlighted by extraordinary hit records including part of the soundtrack for the box office hit, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He produced the debut of the exhilarating song "Inspire the Spirit" featuring Donny Osmond for the opening ceremonies for the 2002 Paralympic Winter Games and also produced a rousing re-working of the hit "We Are Family" for the closing ceremonies for the 2002 Winter Olympics, both of which were broadcast worldwide.
Peterson's ever-growing list of recording and performing credits includes: Stevie Wonder, Steve Miller, Boz Scaggs, Lionel Richie, Reba McIntire, Kenny Loggins, The Beach Boys, Little Richard, Boy George, David Sanborn, Dolly Parton, Anita Baker, Paula Abdul, George Benson, and many others.
According to Maurice Gavin, Slamma Jamma co-owner, "Our goal is to make our team one of the premiere organizations in the ABA. Having a talent like Paul creating our theme song is an example of what the people of Minnesota can expect - the very best. You can bet it will be one of the great theme songs in American sports."
The Slamma Jammas begin play in November 2005 in a temporary home to be announced was they prepared for construction of their 5000+ seat "Sky Sports Entertainment Center slated for a highly visable, centrally located site in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area (proposed completion schedule Fall of 2007). The team is presently in discussions with site owners and City officials regarding the necessary zoning flexibility to finalize their development plans.
