
Miners Sign Second Round Draft Pick Marcus Heard

PIKEVILLE, KY. - The East Kentucky Miners professional basketball organization has announced the signing of 6-7 forward Marcus Heard. A product of DePaul University, Heard was the 13th overall pick in the 2007 CBA Draft. The Miners selected Heard in the second round of this year's draft.
Heard (6-7, 235) averaged 6.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as a senior for the Blue Demons, ranking as one of the team's most consistent performers. As a junior, Heard also helped the DePaul program depth-wise, averaging 3.4 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. A native of Springfield, Ill., Heard played for current DePaul Coach Jerry Wainwright.
"I couldn't be more excited about getting Marcus's contract signed and getting him in a Miner uniform," said East Kentucky Coach Kevin Keathley. "Marcus is a proven player with the ability to play multiple positions. I expect big things out of him during the upcoming season."
As a DePaul Blue Demon, Heard played in the Big East against some of the nation's top college basketball teams and players.
Less than a month ago, East Kentucky made former Syracuse standout Josh Pace its first-ever signee.
The Miners are headed into their inaugural season in the CBA. East Kentucky will open the 2007-08 season away from home in Pittsburgh on Friday, Nov. 16 versus the Xplosion.
