
Miners Offense Fails Brothers Again, Gets Swept in Quebec

The Miners were able to jump ahead early in the top of the second. Backstrom led off with a single, and Romero came up, lining a triple off the outfield wall to score Backstrom. The Miners led 1-0 heading to the bottom of the second. However, the Capitales answered back quickly as Deschamps led off with a bunt single and came around to score on a Schofield-Sam bloop double, tying the game 1-1 through two innings.
The Miners once again regained the lead in the top of the third after Mateo drew a walk and stole second base, eventually coming around to score on a D'Amato single to recapture the lead, 2-1, heading to the bottom of the third. Once again, the Capitales responded with a run of their own as Young drew a walk and advanced all the way to third on two wild pitches before scoring on a Castro sacrifice fly, tying the game 2-2 through three innings.
The Capitales took the lead in the bottom of the fourth after Hacopian led off with a single, advanced to third on a Hamada single, and eventually scored on a wild pitch. The Capitales led 3-2 through four innings.
Brothers' night would end in the bottom of the seventh inning after a one out double from Crowl and an intentional walk to Young. His final line was 6 1/3 innings pitched, allowing eight hits, three earned runs, and three walks, while striking out seven. Dean Ferrara would turn an unassisted double play at third to get out of the jam to keep the score 3-2 through seven innings.
The Capitales cushioned their lead in the bottom of the eigth. Montgomery led off by reaching first on a throwing error by Berkey and, after stealing both second and third, eventually scored on a wild pitch to give the Capitales a 4-2 lead heading into the ninth inning.
The Miners mounted a late rally in the top of the ninth, loading the bases, but could not bring any runs home, falling 4-2 as the Capitales swept the midweek series.

The Miners fall to 40-46 on the season and sit 5.5 games back in the division, continuing to fight for a playoff spot. The Capitales move to 60-26 on the season.
