Milwaukee Wave's Greg Howes Earns MISL Spalding Scoring Champion Award

April 26, 2005 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release

WESTPORT, Conn. (Tuesday, April 26, 2005) – The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that Milwaukee Wave forward Greg Howes has won the MISL Spalding Scoring Champion Award for the second consecutive season. Howes captured the award after leading all League scorers with 73 points. In playing 36 of 39 games for the MISL Regular Season Champion Wave, the 28-year-old Howes led all MISL players with 41 goals and 32 assists.

"I get a great deal of satisfaction out of winning the Spalding Scoring Championship this year," said Howes. "Last year when I won, I think it came as a surprise to some people. This year, I knew I was being targeted by other defenses and that made me work even harder to have success. Winning the scoring championship is directly related to how well we played as a team. I thank Spalding for this honor, and now my focus shifts to winning the MISL Championship Series with my teammates on the Milwaukee Wave."

The MISL Spalding Scoring Champion Award is presented each season to the player who has the most points (goals plus assists) in the MISL regular season. Spalding, maker of the official game ball of the MISL, has maintained title sponsorship of the MISL Spalding Scoring Champion since the 2001-02 MISL season.

A native of Tacoma, Wa., Howes has played five seasons in the League – all with Milwaukee – and has now totaled 194 goals and 110 assists in 189 regular season games. He was named the MISL Most Valuable Player following the 2003-04 season, and is a candidate for that award again this season.

"As an organization, we're all very happy for the success Greg has had this season, and this award he has earned," said Milwaukee Head Coach and Vice President of Soccer Operations, Keith Tozer. "Greg is a player with a lot of ability, and we hope that he continues to play as well as he has this season throughout the MISL Championship Series."
