Milwaukee Mustangs News Release
MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Iron announced today that it has signed fullback/linebacker/defensive end Antonio Ficklin and defensive back Brandon Isaac to its roster. Ficklin becomes a member of the Iron after spending time in the af2, AFL, CFL and NFL while Isaac comes to Milwaukee after being named to the First-Team All-af2 last season with the Manchester Wolves.
ANTONIO FICKLIN, FB/LB DE, 6'2'', 275, SAN JOSE STATE
Ficklin was considered one of the most versatile players in the league in 2007 when he led the Green Bay Blizzard of the af2 in rushing before signing a contract as a fullback with the Detroit Lions of the NFL. Ficklin joined the Blizzard in 2007 and led the team in rushing with 64 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries in three games before being signed by the Detroit Lions. The Lions were the second NFL team to sign Ficklin; he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Francisco 49ers in 2005. Ficklin spent time with the 49ers throughout camp and saw action in preseason games before being released at the beginning of the season.
In 2008, Ficklin began his AFL career with the Kansas City Brigade where he made three tackles and one sack before signing with the New York Dragons that same season and tallied 8.5 tackles and two sacks. Ficklin also played defensive line for the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL in 2005.
Ficklin, 28, attended San Jose State University where, despite being a fullback prospect out of high school, he was immediately moved to linebacker for the Spartans. From 2002 to 2005, Ficklin recorded 122 tackles, 26.5 tackles for a loss, 12 sacks, three fumble recoveries, one interception and one defensive touchdown on his way to being named First-Team All-WAC as a junior.
BRANDON ISAAC, DB, 6'2", 195, SOUTH CAROLINA
Isaac played his rookie season in 2009 with the Manchester Wolves of af2 after being traded prior to the season by the Spokane Shock. Isaac was the only Wolves player to earn First-Team All-af2 recognition after he made a team-high nine interceptions, 72.5 tackles and 34 passes defensed. His nine picks set the Manchester single-season record and were sixth-most in the league, despite missing two games. In his first af2 season, Isaac was named Aaron's Defensive Player of the Game twice.
Isaac, 25, attended the University of South Carolina after a transfer from Georgia Military Junior College where he played for two seasons and was rated the 51st-best junior college prospect in the nation after recording 35 tackles, two sacks and one interception in 2004. As a safety in Steve Spurrier's first recruiting class, Isaac played much of his career with an injured shoulder and took an injury redshirt in 2006. During his SEC career he split time between safety and cornerback and was named the team's Most Improved Safety in 2005 after he finished the season ranked eighth in the league in interceptions and 25th in total tackles. Isaac becomes the third defensive back to date on the 2010 Iron roster that has been a starter in the powerhouse football conference of the SEC.
