Millrats Sign CBA Champ

December 11, 2008 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Saint John Riptide News Release

The Manchester Millrats are pleased to announce the signing of 6'10 forward-center Pierre Darden.

Darden, a key member of the 2008 CBA Champion Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry, participated in the New York Knicks training camp this October, and then entered the NBA D-League draft. He was selected with the 51st pick by the Albuquerque Thunderbirds, but is now in the Premier Basketball League with the Millrats.

Darden, just 25, chose to play in the U.S. this winter because he wanted to stay in front of NBA scouts and keep pursuing his ultimate dream.

Millrats Head Coach Rob Spon thinks Darden can definitely play at the next level: "Pierre is great all around player, a terrific athlete, and has all the tools needed to play in the NBA. We are thrilled to have him on our team."

As a collegian, Darden earned Mid-South Conference Honorable Mention Honors in 2006 at the University of the Cumberlands.

Cumberlands Head Coach Don Butcher said, "Pierre was a pleasure to coach. He always put the team first and was a great example for his teammates. He worked very hard to improve his skills and strength and is now reaping the benefits of that hard work. His future is bright in basketball because he has great work ethic and it extremely coachable."

Pierre Darden will be in uniform on Tuesday at 7:00 PM at NHTI in Concord, NH when the Millrats face the Quebec Kebs in Game 2 of the Champlain Cup Series.
