Mill Rats with Second Home Win this Weekend

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats claimed their second win this weekend at home on Sunday afternoon against the Moncton Miracles. The final score was 78-71 in front of a crowd of 1,986 at Harbour Station.

The Mill Rats bolted out of the gate in the first quarter going on a 9-0 run. The Miracles quickly closed the gap, leaving the Mill Rats with a one point lead by the end of first, 18-17.

Both teams kept their momentum throughout the second, closing the half with a one point difference. Mill Rats held onto their lead going into the third, 33-32.

The third quarter shifted as the Miracles were able to edge over the Mill Rats, outscoring them 21-15. With just over two minutes remaining, a double technical was called on Mill Rat's PJ Young and Moncton's Sylvania Watkins. The Miracles closed the third, leading 53-48.

Half way through the last quarter, the Mill Rats heated back up and were able to get their edge on the Miracles. With just over four minutes left, Isaac Kuon's three pointer followed by DeLuca's finish on Kuon's missed layup, brought the Mill Rats to a 69-62 lead.

The Mill Rats were able to secure another home win, closing the game 78-71.

Isaac Kuon led the Mill Rats with 15 points. Kevin Francis and Darren Duncan each added 14, while Francis had 9 rebounds and Duncan contributed 10 assists.

Moncton was led by Trayvon Lathan with 18 and Akeem Wright with 16; each added 11 rebounds.

Saint John rises to 11-13 while the Miracles fall to 4-18.

The Mill Rats are on the road this week taking on the Oshawa Power and the London Lightning. Catch the action on Wednesday, Feb. 1st when they host the Moncton Miracles again for French Night! Game time is set for 7pm.
