Saint John Mill Rats Shoot over the Moncton Miracles

(SAINT JOHN, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats won Game 1 of their first round playoff series in resounding fashion, 126-98, over their provincial rivals, the Moncton Miracles.
Saint John hosts Game 1 and 2 and then the series shifts to Moncton for Game 3 on Saturday night.
"We feel good about getting the series off to a big start, but we can't celebrate and stop working hard," said Mill Rats Head Coach Rob Spon. "Moncton is a good team and they will come with a stronger effort tomorrow night. We have to stayed focused and on task."
The Mill Rats were dialed in from the jump, grabbing an early 10-point lead, and leading 26-18 after one.
In the second quarter, it was more of the same as Saint John's guards began slicing up the Miracles defense. Doug Herring Jr ended the first half with 21 points as the Mill Rats led 59-37 at the break.
The lead shrunk to 71-59 midway through the third before the Mill Rats offense exploded again. Olu Famutimi caught an alley oop slam from Herring Jr and Anthony Anderson drained a four pointer to push the lead back over 20. It was 95-71 after three quarters.
The lead ballooned over 30 in the fourth quarter before the final buzzer sounded.
Anthony Anderson and Doug Herring scored 28 points each, Olu Famutimi 21, and Chris Smith 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists. James Justice led Moncton with 18.
Saint John shot 15-31 from behind the arc (48%). Moncton shot 5-30 from three (17%)
The Mill Rats are back in action for Game 2 tomorrow night at Harbour Station.
