Mill Rats Support Assistant Coach for Harbour Lights Challenge

(Saint John, NB): In an effort to raise money for the Harbour Lights campaign, the Saint John Mill Rats, presented by Rogers, will be heading over to Harbour View High School this Wednesday at Noon for a 2 on 2 basketball game between Assistant Coach of the Mill Rats Jim Palmer and HVHS student, Jerrod Wallace.
It all started out as a challenge set forth by Wallace, a grade 10 student and JV basketball player for Harbour View High School to take on Mr. Palmer, the Math and Physical Education Teacher at HVHS. When Palmer accepted the 2 on 2 challenge, Wallace asked his friend Justin Allaby, a football player, to help him take on his teacher.
But what Wallace forgot, was that Palmer could ask anyone to be on his team, including players from the Mill Rats training camp.
If Wallace's team loses, he and Justin will both have to wear outrageous costumes to school and have a picture taken for the year book. If they win, the boys get to put their picture on the wall and declare them as Harbour View's 'Athletes of the Century'.
In an effort to help raise money for Habour Lights, Mr. Morgan, the school principal, has agreed to allow the students out of class 30 minutes early if they bring a donation for Harbour Lights. One of the homerooms will be selling tickets for $1 each at the door for the chance to smash a giant pumpkin on Hallowe'en.
Mr. Palmer is excited at this unique event that started out as a fun spirited challenge:
"This is a great opportunity for two community groups to come together for a good cause. Not only are the students of Harbour View going to have a lot of fun with the Mill Rats, we are combining forces to raise money for Harbour Lights. It's really fantastic to see students acting as socially conscious citizens, and the Mill Rats stepping up as positive role models for the students."
