Saint John Riptide News Release

(Saint John, NB): The Mill Rats are pleased to announce that the issues swirling around the team regarding playoff venues and dates have been resolved.

"By working together with our partners at Harbour Station, UNB, and the League, I am happy to announce that we have resolved our playoff issues regarding the venue, and we can now look forward to playing the games and going after this championship for Saint John," said Mill Rats President & General Manager Ian McCarthy.

He added, "I can't say enough great things about the care and concern shown by both the Harbour Station management, and the Athletic Department staff at UNB-SJ. They were very eager and willing to work with us as best they could to accommodate our team, and are as excited as we are for NBL playoff basketball."

"This is the best Mill Rats team ever no question, and these guys are hungry to bring home a championship back to Saint John with this opportunity. Everyone should be excited to get on board for this memorable ride and help support and cheer the team to victory - these guys deserve it!"

PLAYOFF TICKETS ONSALE

Playoff ticket packages are now on sale at the Harbour Station box office and the Mill Rats Fan Zone in Brunswick Square. Season ticket holders will have until Tuesday the 25th to lock in their same seats for the playoffs before they are released to the public on a first-come, first serve basis.

PLAYOFF FORMAT & DATES

The NBL Canada playoffs feature three rounds matching divisional opponents in the first two rounds. In the first round, #1 seed will play the #4 seed in a best-of-five series in a 2-2-1 format. In the Division Championship, the winners of the first round play each other in a best-of-seven series in a 2-2-1-1-1 format. Due to the venue challenges related to World Curling event occupying Harbour Station, if the Mill Rats advance to the second round, the format will change to a 2-3-1-1 format with our opponent having the first two games at home no matter what . The NBL Canada Finals will be a best-of-seven series in a 2-3-2 format with the winner of the Central Division facing the winner of the Atlantic Division.

Games 1 and 2 of the first round series, regardless of opponent, will be on March 4th and March 6th at Harbour Station at 7PM AST. As of the standings today, the Mill Rats would be matched up against the Moncton Miraces in the first round series, but of course that could change.

Game 5 of the first round series, if necessary, will be played at the G. Forbes Eliot Athletic Centre on the campus of UNB-Saint John. The gymnasium will seat a limited capacity of 1,000 for the Mill Rats game. This game is only required if the first round series needed to go to the full 5 games to determine a winner. The first 1000 playoff packages sold will include a guaranteed seat to this game if necessary.

Should the Mill Rats win their first round series, Games 3, & 4 will be held at Harbour Station on March 26 & 28. Any additional home games needed in this series, or in the NBL Finals, will be played at Harbour Station in April.
