Saint John Riptide News Release

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats have inked Montreal big man, 6'11 centre Jonas Pierre. Pierre was acquired to fill the void created by the departure of Mike Anderson due to work constraints.

Jonas is a 9-year veteran of the professional ranks having played for Canadian teams in the ABA, PBL, and in the NBL Canada last season with the Montreal Jazz. He has played professionally abroad in Portugal, and in college he played at Lincoln in Missouri. He was one of the top Canadian big man prospects coming out of Montreal in 1998-1999 along with NBAer Samuel Dalembert. In his stint with the Jazz he averaged 6.4 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game.

"Jonas is going to help us guard the basket, block shots, and rebound the ball," said Mill Rats Head Coach Rob Spon. "He is another familiar face who been in all of the wars over the years that we can count on to go to battle with us."

Pierre, who last played in the NBLC and is exempt from FIBA clearance, will be in uniform for the Mill Rats for Thursday's home game versus the Island Storm.
