
Mill Rats Hold off Miracles for 4th Win in 5 Games

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats held off the Moncton Miracles, 109-105, at Harbour Station for their 4th win in 5 games.
Saint John started slow, trailing 6-0, but picked up steam in the first quarter and led 26-19 after one.
In the second quarter, a Johnny-Mayhane 3-pointer put the Mill Rats ahead 45-30. But Moncton went on a 13-2 run to close the gap to just 47-43. But Doug Herring Jr hit a three to close out the half and keep the Mill Rats ahead 50-43.
In the third quarter, Saint John again maintained control of the game and led 82-72.
The fourth quarter saw the Miracles climb back into the game and take an 90-89 at the 6:31 mark on a James Justice free throw. Mayhane responded again and regained the lead at 92-90. The Mill Rats led 104-99 with 2:31 but two missed conversions led to a put back by Tydran Beaty and 3-pointer by James Justice, and the game was tied again at 104-104.
Once again Johnny Mayhane drilled a three pointer off a post pass from Gabe Freeman, giving Saint John the lead back at 107-104. After a Dexter Strickland free throw, the Mill Rats were forced into a shot clock violation with 10 seconds left. Gabe Freeman's block on James Justice's drive to the basket preserved the lead. And Doug Herring Jr knocked down two free throws to seal the win.
The Mill Rats improve their record to 18-11 while the Miracles fall to 13-16.
Saint John was led by Gabe Freeman with 25 points, Doug Herring Jr 24, Johnny Mayhane 18, Ricky Volcy 15, and Anthony Anderson 12. James Justice led Moncton with 25.
Saint John heads to Halifax tomorrow for a 7PM game at the Scotiabank Centre again the league leading 18-8 Halifax Hurricanes.
