Mill Rats Downed by Miracles

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats were downed by the Moncton Miracles at the Moncton Coliseum with a final score of 87-102 in front of a crowd of 1,504.

The Mill Rats led after first quarter with a score of 23-19 but lost their momentum halfway through the second quarter when Moncton went on a 7-0 run. Six of these points were consecutive baskets from Moncton's Trayvon Lathan.

The Mill Rats ended the half trailing behind ten points with a score of 40-50. The Miracles opened up the third quarter strong and went on a run, securing a 19 point lead with just under seven minutes remaining in the third, 42-61. The Mill Rats fought hard and closed the gap back to 61-70 by the end of the third.

The Miracles held their lead till the end of the game. The last quarter proved to be difficult for the Mill Rats as both Anthony Anderson and Steve Deluca were injured during play and had to sit out.

Leading scorers for the Mill Rats were Antoine Tisby with 21, Anthony Anderson with 17 and Greg Plummer with 13. Trayvon Lathan led the Miracles with 32 points, while Sylvania Watkins secured 18 and Victor Morris, 14.

This is the second consecutive home game win for the Moncton Miracles. They now rise to 3-14 while the Mill Rats fall to 9-10.

The Mill Rats will be on the road for their next two games visiting the Quebec Kebs on the 5th, and the Halifax Rainmen on January 14. Join the team Jan. 14th, Saturday as they take on the Rainmen by riding on the Mill Rats Fan Bus.

The Mill Rats host a rematch with the #1 ranked London Lightning on Sunday, January 15th for the "Smells Like School Spirit" theme night.
