Saint John Riptide News Release
(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats are pleased to announce they have acquired 6'2 Canadian guard Dane Smith to replace the departed Ashton Smith, who left the club.
Dane Smith is from Toronto, Ontario and played for the London Lightning all last season en route to their second NBL Canada championship. He played his college ball at Tennessee-Martin and averaged 8.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game.
"I saw Dane this summer in Toronto and I was impressed with his poise and playing demeanour, and he will definitely be an asset to our team," said Mill Rats President & General Manager Ian McCarthy. "He is another great person who the Saint John community will no doubt embrace."
Smith will be in uniform for the Mill Rats for Thursday's home game versus the Halifax Rainmen.
