VILLANOVA, PA - Tiffeny Milbrett's two goals in four minutes led the New York Power (3-13-1, 10 pts.) to a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Charge (10-2-4, 24 pts.) on Wednesday evening at Villanova Stadium. Milbrett, who did not start the match, came off the bench in the 56th minute for the first time in her WUSA career to hand the Charge its first loss at home during the 2002 season. The victory ended a league-record nine-game losing streak for the Power. The loss also snapped Philadelphia's WUSA record-tying, 10-game unbeaten streak.
Milbrett's scored the game-winner in the 87th minute. After receiving a pass from Minna Mustonen, Milbrett brought the ball into the 18-yard box on the left side. Philadelphia goalkeeper Melissa Moore stayed on her line and tried to cut down any angle Milbrett had. The Power striker ripped a shot past Moore for her 10th goal of the season. Mustonen was credited with an assist on the score.
Mandy Clemens got Philadelphia on the board in the 61st minute with her second goal of the season. On a short corner kick Clemens sent the ball to midfielder Lorrie Fair. Fair held the ball while Clemens overlapped her to the top right corner of the area. Fair gave the ball back to Clemens who ripped a shot over New York goalkeeper Saskia Webber's head to make the score 1-0. Fair was credited with her fourth assist of the season on the goal.
Philadelphia extended its lead to 2-0 with a goal by Liu Ailing in the 79th minute. Teammate Zhao Lihong, who was positioned on the right side of the field, crossed the ball into the area. Webber got a piece of the cross and it ricocheted to Liu in the six-yard box. The Chinese international one-touched the ball into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
Milbrett cut the Charge lead to 2-1 with her ninth goal of the season in the 83rd minute. The Power forward caused Charge midfielder Rebekah McDowell to turn the ball over in the Philadelphia third of the field. Milbrett then took a shot from 25 yards out over the head on Moore who was charging off her line.
Emily Janss tied the match at 2-2 in the 84th minute. Midfielder Justi Baumgardt-Yamada took a shot from 18 yards out that hit the crossbar. The shot ricocheted straight down into the six-yard area. Janss was the first player to get to the loose ball, scoring her sixth goal of the season.
