Sky Blue FC News Release
Morristown, N.J. (Tuesday, October 28, 2014) - Sky Blue FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) officially announced on Tuesday that the team has signed midfielder Shawna Gordon, who most recently suited up for Umea IK of the Damallsvenskan League in Sweden. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Shawna is a left-footed midfielder who is a great addition to our team," Sky Blue FC technical director and head coach Jim Gabarra remarked. "She is very good at set plays, and she has some good playing experience. She played in the USL W-League and in the Australia W-League, as well as most recently in Sweden. Her experience at the professional level makes her someone who will add some nice depth to our team."
Gordon, 24-years-old, played collegiately at Cal State Long Beach, leading the 49ers to their first appearance in the NCAA College Cup Quarterfinals in 2011. She also received Big West Midfielder of the Year accolades that season, in addition to being named to the All-Big West First Team. At the conclusion of her college career, the durable playmaker etched her name into program record books, where she ranks first all-time in games played (89), sixth in points (58), eighth in goals (17), third in assists (24) and fourth in game-winning goals (7).
Gordon spent the 2013 NWSL season with the Boston Breakers, and she then signed a deal with the Western Sydney Wanderers prior to the start of the 2013-14 season of the Australia W-League. In the USL W-League, Gordon played with the LA Blues SC, Arizona Rush and Long Beach FC. The California native spent this past USL season playing on an LA Blues SC side that won a league title by going 15-0-0 on the year and outscoring its opposition, 62-6.
