
Michigan Vanquishes Soo in Shootout, 4-3

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Michigan Warriors defeated the Soo Eagles in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).
The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams.
Michigan came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Warriors was down 3-2 after a goal by Soo's Bruno Birzitis at 18:07 in the second period. Michigan knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Jake Faiella at 9:00 in the third period.
In a losing effort, the Eagles were led by Birzitis, who finished with two goals. Birzitis scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:34 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Soo had taken the advantage when the Warriors' Nick Mosher got sent off for tripping. Sandis Zolmanis assisted on the tally. Birzitis' next tally on the power play made the score Soo with 1:53 left in the second period. Zolmanis provided the assist.
Michigan's offense was clicking better than usual and put 52 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.5 shots per game it averages.
The Warriors were helped by Tyler Groat, who registered one goal. Groat scored 4:21 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Michigan. Zack Szajner assisted on the tally. Michigan additionally got points from Jon Farkas, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Michigan received assists from Colin Larkin, who had one.
The Eagles stifled Michigan's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Soo put 39 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.0 it averages per game.
Soo also got a goal from Matt Menta as well. More assists for Soo came via Derek Lodermeier, who had two and Dante Suffredini and Mike Sabatini, who each chipped in one.
The Warriors' Trevor Gorsuch stopped 36 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Michigan incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Colin Brennan rejected 48 shots on goal for the Eagles. Soo incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
