Miami Manatees News Release

Miami, Fla. – Miami Manatees Head Coach Zac Boyer today announced the signing of left wing Chad Cabana and the trade of defenseman Mark Cole.

Cabana, 29, comes to the Manatees with over eight years of professional experience. Cabana split time last season with the Fort Wayne Komets in the UHL and the Jacksonville Barracudas. In 26 games with the Barracudas, Cabana scored nine goals and 15 points with 41 penalty minutes. In seven games with the Komets, Cabana scored one goal and four points with 56 penalty minutes.

Cabana was a 9th round draft pick (213th overall) of the Florida Panthers in their inaugural season and spent six seasons with the organization from 1993 to 2000. Cabana's most productive season came with the Louisville Panthers in the 1999-2000 season. In 65 games, he scored ten goals and 27 points with 173 penalty minutes.

"Chad Cabana is the ultimate warrior and team player." Boyer said. "He is very tough and gritty. He brings a whole other element to the Manatees. The best part is that he is completely committed to the team concept."

Cabana spent four seasons playing junior hockey with the Tri-City Americans in the Western Hockey League from 1991 to 1995. Appearing in 260 games, he scored 76 goals and 174 points while accumulating 732 penalty minutes.

In addition, Boyer announced the trade of defenseman Mark Cole to the Macon Trax. The trade completes the "future considerations" aspect of an earlier trade in which the Manatees received defensemen Bobby Clouston and Steve Howard.

The Miami Manatees face off against the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, and Orlando Seals in the WHA2's inaugural season. All games are broadcast on www.irn.fm.

Individual and Group Tickets for the Miami Manatees are now on sale. For further information, please contact the Manatees at (305) 536-PUCK (7825) or visit www.miamimanatees.com.
