PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- A little bit of offense went a long way for the St. Lucie Mets on Friday. Darin Gorski and a pair of relievers combined to throw a one-hit shutout at the Charlotte Stone Crabs at Digital Domain Park.

Gorski (11-1) brought the best ERA and winning percentage in the Florida State League into play, and improved on the both those marks with another impressive showing. His league-leading ERA dropped to 2.27 with six scoreless innings against Charlotte.

The Mets lefty allowed just one hit, a third inning single by Omar Luna, and faced the minimum over his six innings of work. Gorski fanned six hitters and stands second in the FSL with 131 strikeouts on the season.

Charlotte starter Merrill Kelly (8-4) deserved a better fate. He worked 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball before running into some sixth inning trouble. The righty allowed six hits, walked two and struck out one.

St. Lucie's offense scratched across a fifth inning run on Juan Centeno's infield single. With runners on the corners and two outs, Centeno's roller deflected off the glove of diving first baseman Alejandro Torres and allowed Francisco Pena to come in from third to break the scoreless tie. That Centeno's RBI snapped Kelly's streak of 18 2/3 scoreless innings against St Lucie.

Another Charlotte pitcher's scoreless streak was snapped in Friday's loss. Righty reliever Kirby Yates helped Kelly escape the sixth inning unscathed, but the Mets managed to plate the first runs of the season against Yates an inning later.

Wilmer Flores ripped a two-run, opposite field single that stretched the Mets lead to 3-0 in the seventh. Those runs were the first surrendered by Yates in 22 2/3 innings, a span of 11 relief appearances. That streak represents a Charlotte franchise record.

The Mets pulled into a second place tie with the Stone Crabs in the FSL South Division second half standings after taking the series opener. Both teams trail the first place Bradenton Marauders by 3 1/2 games. St. Lucie's win also improved their mark against Charlotte to 12-4 on the season.

The series continues on Saturday as the Stone Crabs send left-hander Kyle Lobstein (8-9) to the mound against Mets righty Zack Wheeler (1-1). First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
