Florida Fire Frogs News Release

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL: An excellent start from RHP Luc Rennie and a three-run fourth inning did in the Florida Fire Frogs on Sunday afternoon as they dropped the game, 4-2, and the series to the St. Lucie Mets at First Data Field.

Rennie (2-0) kept the Fire Frogs guessing through six innings. He scattered five hits and a walk with four strikeouts while on the mound. His only mistake of the day was a 2-0 pitch to Drew Lugbauer that he deposited over the right-field fence for his second home-run of the season to get Florida its first run, 3-1.

The Mets began their big third frame with a leadoff single from Jeremy Vasquez. Carlos Cortes followed up with a double to center field that Riley Unroe couldn't handle cleanly. Vasquez scored from first to make it 1-0. Nick Meyer's knock quickly brought in Cortes to double the lead.

RHP Huascar Ynoa almost got out of the inning without further damage. Matt Winaker and Hansel Moreno came up empty to put two outs on the board. However, Ynoa issued a free pass to Manny Rodriguez setting the stage for Blake Tiberi. He rolled what ended up being the game-winning single into right, scoring Meyer, and putting the Mets up 3-1.

Ynoa (0-1) permitted seven hits and three earned runs with a walk and six punchouts over 3 and 2/3 frames. Just activated RHP Sean McLaughlin walked two and fanned one over 2 and 1/3 innings. RHP Brandon White gave up an unearned run in his two stanzas.

A leadoff double from William Contreras in the ninth began the rally efforts for the Fire Frogs. Two wild pitches from RHP Marcel Renteria would eventually bring him in. Brett Langhorne and Unroe would get on to bring the tying run to the plate, but Shean Michel went down on strikes to conclude the ballgame.

Renteria struck out the side in the ninth despite letting a run in. RHP Briam Campusano received a hold for his efforts out of the pen, fanning four and not allowing a hit while pitching the seventh and eighth.

NEXT UP: The Fire Frogs begin a six-game homestand on Monday evening at Osceola County Stadium. It's Belly Buster Monday at the park and for $19 you receive, a ticket, unlimited hot dogs, hamburgers, and popcorn. There's also free beer for all until Clearwater puts its first run on the board, after that $2 beers with the purchase of a souvenir cup all night long. First pitch will be fired off at 6 p.m.
