MESQUITE, Texas - University of North Texas alum Zac Whitfield has signed with the Mesquite Marshals, the team announced earlier this afternoon. Whitefield (5'9", 190 lbs.) will join the Marshals for his rookie Champions Indoor Football League campaign. In four seasons for the Mean Green, Whitfield tallied 146 tackles, 15 interceptions and 12 pass break ups.
"We're happy to add Zac Whitfield to our roster. He is a Pro caliber player who earned All-Sun-Belt honors during his college career," said Coach Hendrix. "He is a quick DB that has great field awareness and breaks on the ball very well. We're excited to see how his skill set translates to the indoor game."
Whitfield is a native of Sherman Texas were he rushed for 23 touchdowns and over 1,100 yards his senior season at Sherman High School. He was a 13-4A first-team all-district selection in consecutive seasons as a junior and was named to the All-Texoma land football team in 2010 and 2009 by the Sherman Herald Democrat.
The Mesquite Marshals are ushering a football revolution into North Texas, where the thrill of football can be had during any climate because of the indoor play. Fans can cheer on the Marshals in 13 regular-season games, seven of which will be played at home in Mesquite Arena, and -- hopefully -- in three divisional play-off, southern championships and national championship games. The CIF league's season starts Saturday, Feb. 20, and runs through June 25, when the CIF Champions Bowl will be held to determine the national winning team.
