Merriweather Adds to List of Honors

GLENDALE, Arizona - Veteran defensive back Davontae Merriweather joined the Arizona Rattlers eight games into the 16-game regular season, but it was long enough for him to be named to the All-IFL second team today.
The award adds to a long history of honors that includes being named the 2019 IFL Defensive Player of the Year, first-team All-IFL in 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2025, and Most Valuable Player of the 2024 National Championship game won by the Rattlers.
Merriweather joined the team for the May 18 game against the New Mexico Chupacabras in the IFL Cup in New Jersey and was immediately inserted into the starting lineup. In his eighth season with the Rattlers, he has been part of a defense that is No. 1 in the league in total defense and scoring defense, and leads the league with 29 interceptions, 10 more than any other team in the league.
In 10 games, he has piled up 50 tackles, four tackles for loss, and contributed five interceptions to the team's league-leading total. He had a season-high 10 tackles in the first-round playoff victory over the Vegas Knight Hawks on Sunday.
Merriweather will be in the lineup when the Rattlers make their bid this week for a berth in the IFL National Championship game. Arizona will visit the San Diego Strike Force in the Western Conference championship which kicks off Sunday at 4:30 p.m. MST. The game will be broadcast on Yahoo! Sports.
