Merrill Wins Warrior Defensive Player of the Week Honors

Major League Lacrosse announced today that Hamilton National Brodie Merrill has been named the Warrior Defensive Player of the Week. Merrill anchored the Hamilton Nationals' defensive unit in a convincing 15-8 win over the Boston Cannons to open their 2013 Major League Lacrosse season.

The Orangeville, Ontario native gathered seven ground balls, and added a first-quarter assist to Kevin Ross during an eight-point National run. Merrill helped hold Boston scoreless for nearly 20 minutes in the first half, aiding in a 9-3 halftime lead.

Merrill is in his fifth season with the Nationals and ninth in the MLL. In 2012, he was named to the All-MLL Team for the seventh consecutive year. He is a six-time selection as the Warrior Defensive Player of the Year and holds the MLL record with 627 career ground balls.

The Nationals (1-0) makes their home debut on Saturday, May 11th with a 7:00 p.m. contest against the New York Lizards (1-1) at Ron Joyce Stadium at McMaster University.
