Members Assembly Approves QMJHL Cup Events

November 11, 2021 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release

Montreal, QC - At the latest QMJHL Members Assembly meeting, the Assembly endorsed the creation of three tournaments which will fall under the umbrella of the QMJHL Cup. The purpose of these events is to showcase the top prospects ahead of the upcoming QMJHL Entry Draft presented by Fenplast.

The main objectives of the QMJHL Cup are the following:

Create a showcase for players in Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland & Labrador;

Promote the league's values and programs to prospects and their parents;

Gather the top prospects in a single location and have them play in a very competitive environment;

Offer an opportunity for QMJHL team scouts to evaluate the prospects;

Offer an opportunity for Hockey Canada to evaluate players ahead of the U17 program.

The first leg of the QMJHL Cup will be held during the M18AAA Challenge from December 16 to 19, 2021 in Saguenay, QC. The event will be comprised of six (6) teams: two (2) teams representing the top U15 prospects selected by Hockey Quebec and four (4) teams consisting of the top 80 prospects born in 2006 from both the LHEQ and RSEQ leagues. The player selections will be made in collaboration with Hockey Quebec and QMJHL Central Scouting.

The second event will take place from February 3 to 6, 2021 in Dartmouth, NS. Each branch of the Atlantic Provinces (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland & Labrador) will build a roster with the top U16 players from their territory.

The final event will occur from April 27 to May 1 at the Centre d'excellence Sports Rousseau in Boisbriand, QC. This competition will regroup the top 40 prospects from the Atlantic provinces who will be split into two (2) teams, while the top 80 prospects from Quebec will be assigned to four (4) separate teams. This third event will be the last opportunity for scouts to evaluate players ahead of the QMJHL Entry Draft presented by Fenplast on June 16 and 17, 2022.

The QMJHL salutes the collaboration of Hockey Canada, Hockey Quebec, Hockey New Brunswick, Hockey Nova Scotia, Hockey PEI, Hockey NFL and the Quebec U18 Developmental Hockey League for making this project possible.
