It was a special night Saturday for Danbury Whalers' Forward Tim Richter as he accounted three points in Saturday's victory 4-0 over the Watertown Privateers. Richter, from Naugatuck, Connecticut grew up just thirty minutes from the Danbury Arena.
"It's really great," Richter said. "I get to play the game I love in front of family and friends." Richter has many memories growing up playing hockey in the Danbury Arena. At Saturday night's game were Richter's family and friends, they have been some of Richter's biggest influences.
"My parents have been very supportive," Richter said. "They dragged me around the entire state to play the game."
Richter's hockey career began in midgets and fell in love with the game watching his brother play on a local pond. Richter is playing in his first season in Danbury after spending four years playing years at UMASS. Richter's final two seasons at UMASS were extremely impressive. In his senior year he had 26 points in 27 games, including 12 goals.
Richter has taken lessons learned from his local hockey coaches that have helped him throughout his hockey career. "Bring a good attitude, work hard and good things will happen," Richter said. Those words have also helped Richter in life.
Richter came to the Danbury Whalers as a draft pick in the inaugural Federal Hockey League College/Junior Draft. Richter was selected with the club's 2nd round pick.
Tim Richter wears a special number in Danbury Whalers history - #17. Check him out at the Danbury Ice Arena next weekend, Friday, November 15th and 16th at 7:35 PM.
