
Meet George Jensen: Saints Sign Eastview High Graduate

ST. PAUL, MN (March 19, 2013) - The St. Paul Saints continue to stockpile arms as the 2013 season is less than two months away. Once again they turn to a local product signing right-handed pitcher George Jensen, a former Tampa Bay Ray farmhand and Eastview High School graduate.
The 22-year-old Jensen spent three seasons in the Rays system and spent all of 2012 at Single-A Port Charlotte. He went 3-6 with a 5.32 ERA in 34 appearances (two starts). In 83.1 innings pitched he walked 35 and struck out 50 while opponents hit .298 against him.
Jensen was a 46th round draft pick by the Rays in 2010 out of Des Moines (IA) Area Community College (DMACC) and began his professional career at the Rookie Level Appalachian League with the Princeton Rays. He had a superb year going 1-2 with a 2.97 ERA and one save in 12 games (one start). In 36.1 innings pitched he walked six and struck out 30 while opponents hit .260 against him. In 2011 he was promoted to Single-A Bowling Green of the Midwest League and was converted to a starter. He went 13-4 with a 4.28 ERA in 26 starts. In 122.0 innings pitched he walked 42 and struck out 88 while opponents hit .289 against him. He finished tied for second in the league in wins.
During his senior season at Eastview High School he picked up five victories, had four complete games and a 2.36 ERA in 62.1 innings pitched while striking out 70 and was named Honorable Mention. Jensen also played two years for the Eastview Legion Team and during his second year they won state and went to the Central Plains Regional Tournament.
As a freshman at DMACC his team went to the Jr. College World Series. Jensen tossed his first complete game no-hitter during his sophomore season. He threw 1.0 inning of a combined no-hitter while at Eastview High School in 2008.
During the off-season the Saints have signed 10 players, seven pitchers and three position players. The Saints 2013 season begins on Thursday, May 16 with a 7:05 p.m. home game against the New Jersey Jackals.
