Marquette Rangers News Release
Marquette - Marquette Rangers defenseman Ryan McGrath (Pittsburgh, PA.) has been named the North American Hockey North Division Player of The Week for his performance this past weekend against Motor City and Alpena.
McGrath notched a goal and five assists in two games against the Motor City Machine in which the Rangers scored 6-3 and 6-4 wins at Lakeview Arena.
"It's a great honor," McGrath said of the accolade Monday. "But obviously you don't get recognition like this by yourself, if my teammates aren't putting the puck in the net I'm not picking up the assists; so it doesn't happen for me if they're not burying the puck after the pass."
"It's great to have a good personal weekend, but I'm happier I think that we were able to win two games with Motor City because that's what it's really all about."
McGrath, 18, who was acquired from the Topeka Roadrunners of the NAHL Central Division in September, said the transition to the Rangers and the North Division has been a smooth one.
"I absolutely love it here," he added. "From everyone in town to the guys in the locker room, I've felt really welcome here in Marquette; it's like I've been here all season."
McGrath (1g 6a, 7pts) is now the highest scoring defenseman on the team, and ranks 5th league-wide among scoring for blue-liners so far this season.
Marquette travels to Alexandria, Minnesota to take on the Alexandria Blizzard of the NAHL Central Division this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
