Marquette Rangers News Release
Marquette - Jimmy McCusker made the most out of his first weekend in a Marquette Rangers uniform. The downstate Novi native, and former Alpena IceDigger captain, was named North American Hockey League North Division Sherwood Player of the Week for his performance against both Traverse City and Motor City at Lakeview Arena.
McCusker struck for five goals and two assists as the Rangers skated to a 2-1 record over the weekend. On Thursday the fourth year forward notched a pair of goals, as well as the game-winner in the shootout in a 5-4 victory over the Traverse City North Stars. The next night, the 20-year-old put home two more goals as Marquette doubled up Motor City, 4-2. McCusker wrapped up his week with a one-goal, one-assist performance in a 3-2 loss to the Metal Jackets. He was also a plus-6 for the week.
"Jimmy brings a bunch of experience to our locker room and that carried over onto the ice," said Rangers head coach Kenny Miller. "He's a guy we'll count on down the stretch to help us move up the ladder in the North Division."
Marquette (26 - 16, 52 pts.) sits in second place in the NAHL North Division, two points behind Traverse City heading into this weekend's action where the Rangers and Motor City will play a re-match at Yack Arena in Wyandotte.
