New York Lizards News Release

UNIONDALE, NY -- The Long Island Lizards today announced that veteran defensemen Pat McCabe will retire after the 2006 season. McCabe, who has played all six MLL seasons for Long Island, will play in his final game on Saturday against New Jersey. The team will officially retire McCabe's #29 jersey prior to Saturday's game.

With nearly two decades of lacrosse experience, McCabe is often regarded as a 'Coach on the Field' by teammates and coaches alike. Pat has dominated at every level of lacrosse, on and off the field, starting in every MLL All-Star Game and winning Championships at nearly every level.

McCabe began his lacrosse career at Elmont High School, winning a New York State Championship. His career continued at Syracuse University, where he was part of a dynasty that won three NCAA Championships.

After college, Pat won five Championships for Long Island Lacrosse Club, and played indoors for the New York Saints for eleven seasons before taking over as Head Coach.

Earlier this year, McCabe was announced as a member of the 49th class of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. McCabe will be officially inducted in at a ceremony on November 11th in Maryland.

McCabe continues to stay involved in the game, serving as Director of Shooting Star Lacrosse Camp. Pat resides in Oceanside with his wife, Angela, his two daughters, Christina and Sarah, and son, Vincent.
