Mayor of McKinney to Drop First Puck on Friday

McKINNEY, TEXAS - (9/7/11) - The Texas Tornado are pleased to announce that the mayor of McKinney, Brian Loughmiller, will drop the ceremonial first puck before the team's exhibition game with the Corpus Christi IceRays on Friday, September 9. The contest will be played at Dr Pepper StarCenter in McKinney, marking the first time the Tornado have played a game at the rink, which is located eight miles west of Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco.

"We are truly excited that the Texas Tornado have scheduled an exhibition game right here in McKinney, Texas," Mayor Loughmiller said. "Our partnership with the Dallas Stars in the creation of the Dr Pepper StarCenter has opened the doors to an exciting sport for our residents as well as providing a great venue for recreation and exercise. The Tornado exhibition game is just one more example of the commitment made by the Dallas Stars and the Texas Tornado to our community and our local economy. I look forward to dropping the puck on Friday night. Hopefully I will stay on my feet!" The Dallas Stars operate the two-sheet facility in Craig Ranch, which opened in September of 2009.

"As the Texas Tornado kick off their 2011-12 season with a pre-season game at the Dr Pepper StarCenter at Craig Ranch in McKinney, the Dallas Stars are proud to host this game," Vice President of Dr Pepper StarCenters and Dr Pepper Arena Ed Reusch said. "This state of the art facility was made possible by a partnership between the Stars and the City of McKinney, and that partnership has given the local community a first class skating rink that is now able to host top tier sporting events such as this Tornado game. To be able to see these world class young athletes in such an intimate setting is sure to be a thrill for anyone who comes out to enjoy the game." Children 18 and under will be admitted to the game free of charge, while adult tickets will be available for just $5. Each paid ticket will receive a 2-for-1 voucher good for Opening Night against the defending Robertson Cup Champion Fairbanks Ice Dogs, when the Tornado open the home portion of their schedule on September 30 at 7:30 p.m. ###

The Texas Tornado, proud members of the 28-team North American Hockey League, play at the state-of-the-art Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco. The team will host the 2012 Robertson Cup National Championship Tournament, and season Tickets for the 2011- 2012 season tickets are now on sale, starting as low as $80. Since their inception in 1999, the Texas Tornado have set the standard for excellence for hockey for players ages 21 and under in the United States. Besides their three straight National Championships from 2004-2006, the Tornado have won seven NAHL Regular Season Division titles and had seven straight 40+ win seasons from 1999-2007. Since 1999, the Tornado have developed and moved on over 120 players in ten years onto NHL, NCAA and professional teams.
