Mavericks Sign Reigning MVP Garett Bembridge

Independence, Missouri - Aug. 20, 2014 -- The Missouri Mavericks announced Wednesday afternoon that they have signed right wing Garett Bembridge to a standard player contract for the 2014-15 season.

"Obviously to get a veteran of his caliber, a player who was drafted by the NHL, and the 2014 Central Hockey League MVP is an opportunity that we could not pass up to make this Mavericks team better," said Richard Matvichuk, Missouri Mavericks Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations. "After my conversations with Garett, the organization is very excited to add him as a cornerstone to the Mavs hockey program here in Independence."

Bembridge led the Central Hockey League (CHL) in scoring last season, netting 42 goals and racking up 62 assists to claim the league MVP award. The thirty-three year old, Melfort, Saskatchewan native has recorded an impressive professional career, most recently playing for the Denver Cutthroats (CHL) through to the final round of the 2014 CHL Playoffs.

Brent Thiessen, Missouri Mavericks President & General Manager, expressed enthusiasm over bringing Bembridge onboard with the Mavs organization, stating: " We are very excited to come to terms with the reigning CHL MVP. We believe that we got a lot better today and are excited for October."
