
Matthews, Krys, Shaw, Gornet, and Schierhorn Earn USHL Weekly Honors

Chicago, IL - The United States Hockey League today announced the CCM Hockey player awards for the 26th week of the 2014-15 USHL regular season.
Winners include Auston Matthews of Team USA, named CCM Forward of the Week; Chad Krys of Team USA and Hayden Shaw of the Dubuque Fighting Saints, named co-recipients of CCM Defenseman of the Week; and Cam Gornet of the Sioux City Musketeers and Eric Schierhorn of the Muskegon Lumberjacks, selected as co-recipients of CCM Goaltender of the Week.
Auston Matthews, F, Team USA: The 17-year-old forward recorded six points (3g, 3a) to lead Team USA's Under-18 squad to a pair of wins against the Lincoln Stars. He had three points (2g, 1a), including his sixth multi-goal game in the USHL this season, during the 11-3 victory on Friday. Matthews followed up with another three-point effort (1g, 2a) in Saturday's 8-0 win. The big weekend extended his USHL point streak to 11 games (10g, 15a). He is averaging two points per contest in USHL play this season, racking up 44 points (18g, 26a) in just 22 games. The native of Scottsdale, Arizona is a product of the Arizona Bobcats youth hockey program, and he is already considered one of the top prospects for the 2016 NHL Draft.
Chad Krys, D, Team USA: The 16-year-old defenseman was part of Team USA's weekend sweep of the Lincoln Stars, recording four points (1g, 3a) and posting a plus-seven rating. He dished out two assists in Friday's 11-3 win and finished the night with a plus-six rating to equal a season high for a USHL player. Krys followed up with two points (1g, 1a) in Saturday's 8-0 win. He has split time between Team USA's Under-17 and Under-18 squads this season, totaling 26 points (4g, 22a) and a plus-15 rating over 33 USHL contests. The native of Ridgefield, Connecticut is a product of the Connecticut Oilers youth program and spent last year with the New Jersey Rockets before coming to Team USA.
Hayden Shaw, D, Dubuque Fighting Saints: The defenseman had a four-point weekend (1g, 3a) in helping the Saints earn a pair of victories. He scored a goal in Friday's 3-2 victory over Team USA's Under-17 squad, his first goal since being acquired by Dubuque earlier in the month. Shaw then equaled a USHL career high by dishing out three assists in Saturday's 4-2 win against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. He is averaging just shy of a point per game with 35 points (3g, 32a) over 39 games this season. He is tied for fifth in scoring among League defensemen and is second in assists. The 18-year-old product of Woodbury High School in Minnesota is committed to the University of North Dakota.
Cam Gornet, G, Sioux City Musketeers: The 19-year-old netminder posted a 1.50 goals-against-average and .962 save percentage in two games to lead the Musketeers to a pair of victories. He made 40 saves in Friday's 6-3 win against the Sioux Falls Stampede. Gornet then followed up by stopping all 35 shots he faced, including 20 in the third period, during Saturday's 6-0 win over the Madison Capitols to post his second shutout of the season. It was also his 10th victory of the year for Sioux City. He has won eight of his last 10 starts and now has a 2.33 GAA and .921 SV% over 20 appearances this season. The native of St. Louis, Missouri is a product of the St. Louis AAA Blues youth program.
Eric Schierhorn, G, Muskegon Lumberjacks: Earning his third USHL weekly honor of the season, the goaltender posted a 1.45 GAA and .950 SV% over two games to help the Lumberjacks earn a weekend sweep over the Green Bay Gamblers. He made 33 saves in Friday's 3-2 overtime win, and then he followed up with a 24-save effort in Saturday's 3-1 victory. Schierhorn has now won four straight starts and is 5-0-1 over his last six outings. The 19-year-old is third among USHL goaltenders with 23 wins while ranking first with a .927 SV%. His 2.48 GAA is the fifth-best mark in the USHL. The native of Anchorage, Alaska is a product of the Russell Stover youth hockey program and is committed to play college hockey at the University of Minnesota.
