Matchday Preview: Miami FC vs. Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC
October 27, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Miami FC News Release
MIAMI - On Wednesday night at FIU Stadium, Miami FC and Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC will conclude their contest originally played on October 16. The partial replay will begin in the 67th minute with the Hounds holding a 1-0 lead following an officiating error and misapplication of the FIFA Laws of the Game during the original contest. The game will resume at 7 p.m. ET.
Under the stipulations of the resumption, each team will have all five substitutions available, and discipline that was originally applied during the game on Oct. 16 will be waived. Both teams will also be able to submit new 23-player matchday squads and lineups for the resumption, which will take place with 67:00 on the game clock.
@TheMiamiFC rebounded with a 2-0 win on Sunday night against the New York Red Bulls II at FIU Stadium as Adonijah Reid and Christiano Francois each found the net. Miami will enter in fourth place in the Atlantic Division but still in with an outside chance of finishing second if it can turn the game around against the Hounds. Miami has earned a pair of comeback victories previously this season against Pittsburgh, which stand as the only two defeats the Hounds have suffered this season after scoring first. Francois leads the team with 11 goals, while Ariel Martinez has recorded seven assists to help Miami earn its first trip to the USL Championship Playoffs in its second season in the league.
@RiverhoundsSC will look to maintain or add to its lead as it tries to pass the Charlotte Independence for second place in the Atlantic Division standings with Charlotte sitting on the inside track with two games remaining, including a home contest against Loudoun United FC on Wednesday evening. Pittsburgh is looking for its first win against Miami this season but claimed a 2-1 win against the Charleston Battery this past Saturday night as Russell Cicerone scored the winner with just over 10 minutes remaining. Cicerone leads the Hounds with 16 goals this season while Alex Dixon leads the team with nine assists after providing the ball that led to Saturday's winner.
