Storylines:
Score to Settle: The last time the Red Stars went toe to toe with the Washington Spirit was in the NWSL Championship match November 20, 2021. The overtime match ended with the Spirit claiming the title with a 2-1 result. The two played three matches in the 2021 season, with their season series ending 1-1-1.
Starting off Hot: Through four matches this year, the Red Stars have scored nine goals. That is three times more than their goal total last season through four matches (3). While Mallory Pugh accounts for three of the team's nine goals, the rest have come from the team's young players including rookies Ava Cook and Sarah Griffith, and Bianca St-Georges and Ella Stevens. Rachel Hill also added to the team's total by scoring her first goal of the season last match.
Through the Wringer: Starting with the match against Portland, May 28, the Red Stars face a series of tough matches on short rest. Between May 28 and June 12, the team plays five matches against Portland (last match) Washington Spirit twice, OL Reign and the Orlando Pride. These matches are sure to test the team's depth and be measuring stick for future matches with potential playoff implications.
