FC Edmonton News Release
FALKIRK, SCT - FC Edmonton (2-1-0) will look to leave Scotland on a winning note as they head into the final match of their two-week, preseason trip against Scottish Professional Football League's (SPFL) Queen's Park FC, Mar. 22 at Lesser Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland. Kick-off in the match is set for 1:30 p.m. MT. The Eddies have impressed on the pitch during their previous three matches, opening up their preseason with back-to-back victories before showing a display of resilience in a come-from-behind draw against Newcastle United FC's U-21 squad.
Formed in 1867, Queen's Park FC carries a unique status as the only fully amateur club in the SPFL. The team currently sits fourth in the 10-team, League 2 table with 47 points through 30 matches in the 2015-16 campaign. Paul Woods leads Queen's Park FC with 13 goals, while teammates John Carter and Chris Duggan round out the top-3 scorers with eight and five goals, respectively.
The Eddies are looking to carry momentum from a positive preseason that most recently saw them fighting back from a 2-0 deficit against Newcastle United's U-21 squad to earn a draw in what was arguably the biggest test of their Scotland trip. Contributions in the attacking third for the Eddies has been as varied as the roster the team has fielded throughout each match, with Nik Ledgerwood, Jake Keegan, Daryl Fordyce, Tomi Ameobi and Sadi Jalali all registering goals. Matt VanOekel has led the Eddies' trio of goalkeepers in minutes played, while Nathan Ingham and Tyson Farago have split duties during the second halves of play.
Virtually every travelling player on the Eddies roster has seen time on the pitch at some point in each preseason match. That trend is expected to continue on Tuesday evening at Lesser Hampden Park-one of the last times head coach Colin Miller and his coaching staff will be able to assess the team in a competitive setting ahead of their North American Soccer League (NASL) Season Opener against Rayo OKC.
"It has been a very positive trip," Miller stated. "Great attitude from the players from the day they arrived and a real good training session this morning after having a couple days off...We train tomorrow morning for match preparation and then we'll have another good game against Queen's Park FC. I think this trip is something that will, hopefully, give us a good start to the season."
Following their trip to Scotland, the Eddies return to Edmonton for just over a week, before opening up their North American Soccer League (NASL) season on April 2 versus Rayo OKC. The team faces Minnesota United FC, April 10 in their Canadian Tire Home Opener, 2:00 p.m. MT at Clarke Field. For tickets and more information, please call 780.700.2600, visit www.fcedmonton.com.
