Match Preview vs. Partick Thistle FC
March 12, 2016 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
FC Edmonton News Release
FALKIRK, SCT - FC Edmonton kicks off the first match of their 2016 Scotland preseason trip, Mar. 13 at 7:00 a.m. (MST), with a visit to Scottish Professional Football's (SPFL) Partick Thistle FC at New Tinto Park.
Unlike the Eddies, Partick Thistle's season is well underway. The Premiership club currently sit eighth in the league table with 34 points through 29 matches this season and are coming off a Saturday afternoon, 2-1 defeat to league-leader Celtic FC. Established in 1876, Partick Thistle is currently in the midst of their third year in Scotland's top flight, following the merger of the Scottish Premier League (SPL) and Scottish Football League (SFL) in 2013.
Partick Thistle is the first team that the Eddies have faced in 2016 since opening training camp in early February. In total, the team features eight new faces for their upcoming campaign that include goalkeeper Nathan Ingham, defenders Papé Diakité and Adam Eckersley, midfielders Gustavo, Nik Ledgerwood, Jason Plumhoff, Shamit Shome, as well as forward Jake Keegan.
"The guys are in a good place," FC Edmonton head coach stated following Saturday's training session. "They are excited about the first game versus Partick Thistle. Bring on the games now, we are at a stage where we have trained so much that we now need to see where we are at in terms of our fitness levels and how ready we are for the next stage of our preseason."
Sunday marks the first of four matches FC Edmonton will face over the next 12 days. Following Partick Thistle, the team will face Airdrieonians FC and Newcastle United U-21, before wrapping up their Scotland trip against Queens Park FC.
"I'm not expecting miracles," Miller added. "It's our first game against opposition. I'm hoping that we'll see some aspects of what we've worked on in preseason from a defensive-shape point-of-view. It'll be interesting to see some of the new players...It's just getting the rustiness, getting the training out of the system and now getting into a full match situation."
