Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Sacramento Republic FC will host Rangers FC on Saturday, July 17 at Bonney Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The match will be Caped Crusader Night.
The match is the second of four friendly matches for Republic FC in the month of July. Republic FC fell to Mexican Premier League club, Atlas FC, 2-1 in their first friendly of the season. This is also the second of four friendly matches for Rangers FC who are preparing for their Scottish Championship League season. Following the match Rangers FC will travel to Canada for two friendlies before heading back to Scotland to begin their season.
Republic FC enters the match after a scoreless draw against Orlando City SC at Bonney Field on Thursday night. The match was Republic FC's second straight shutout and the first time that Orlando City had by shutout this season.
Republic FC goalkeeper Jake Gleeson has allowed just three goals in his last five appearances including three shutouts. During that same span Gleeson has dropped his goals against average from 1.68 to 1.16.
Defender Nemanja Vukoviæ has started all 19 USL PRO matches for Republic FC this season. Vukoviæ has now played all but five minutes of Republic FC's USL PRO campaign, a total of 1705 minutes on the season, tops in USL PRO.
Rangers FC was founded in 1872 in Glasgow, Scotland. They have become a dominant force not just in Scotland, but in all of Europe. Rangers FC has won 54 league titles, 33 Scottish Cups, 27 Scottish League Cups and has won all three in the same year a record seven times. All together Rangers FC has won a total of 117 trophies in their 142-year existence.
Rangers FC comes into the match after falling to the Ventura County Fusion 3-1 in a friendly match on July 15. The match was the first of four North American friendlies for Rangers FC prior to their Scottish Championship League campaign.
Rangers FC ended last season as the Scottish League One Champions following a 33-0-3 season. Rangers FC were led last season by forward Jon Daly who scored 20 goals in 34 appearances. In preparation for this season Rangers FC have announced the signings of defenders Darren McGregor and Marius Zaliukas, and forwards Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller.
The match will be the return of Caped Crusader Night. The themed activities, presented by Jiffy Lube, were originally scheduled on July 4 but were postponed due to the fire near Cal Expo. The Republic FC starting eleven and their accompanying child escorts will wear custom-made Republic FC capes that will be auctioned off at halftime. Proceeds from the auction will benefit Capes4Heroes, a Northern California foundation that makes capes for children with special needs or those children that have experienced life-threatening illnesses. Fans are encouraged to wear their own capes and superhero attire to the match.
