Match Preview: Islanders Face Eastern Conference Leader Louisville

August 10, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release

Harrisburg, PA - City Islanders FC will look to put a tough home loss behind them when they head to Louisville to take on the first place team in the conference on Wednesday, August 10 at 7:30 p.m.

In their last outing City suffered their first loss in more than two weeks at the hands of the second place team in the conference, the New York Red Bulls II. The Isles came out with dangerous attacking runs, but just weren't able to convert any chances into goals.

Even though City has had a good stretch of games they have been plagued by missed opportunities. In the previous game against Rochester they had the majority of the chances, but it took a late game goal to come out of the game with a 1-1 draw.

Garret Pettis has stepped in for the injured Aaron Wheeler, who is still on the mend, while Jose Barril has been the best player on the pitch over the course of the last few games. He has been able to use his creativity and skill to open up play, which has led to many chances on net.

City's opponent this week has been one of the best teams in the league for the whole year. Louisville sits atop the conference with only three losses on the season, two of which came in the last three games, and a total of 45 points. After dropping their second game of the season, they rattled off a 17-game unbeaten streak to vault them to the top of the tables.

Louisville is led by Jon Chandler Hoffman's 14 total goals on the year. Behind Hoffman Louisville has 14 other players that have tallied at least one goal.

With the loss to New York, City has a tough road to make it into the playoffs this season and could miss the postseason for the second time in as many years. Although it is a long shot a win against a tough opponent like Louisville will go a long way to ending the season on a positive note.

City still has two home matches against Pittsburgh on Saturday, August 27 at 7 p.m. and Bethlehem, on Tuesday, August 30 at 7 p.m.. Both games give the Isles the opportunity to take the season series against the two other Pennsylvania teams.

Before heading back to the island to take on the Riverhounds, City will travel to Canada to take on Toronto FC II on Sunday, August 14.
