Match Preview: Hammerheads Ready to Host Los Angeles

Wilmington, NC- Just less than a week after their two victories on the road, the Hammerheads return home to Legion Stadium to host the Los Angeles Blues in the Fox Soccer USL PRO Game of the Week.
The August 5th match marks the last stretch of regular season games at Legion Stadium for the Hammerheads. The final home game of the season is scheduled for Wednesday, August 3, unless the Hammerheads can hold on to their second place position and earn a home playoff game.
Last weekend the Hammerheads earned six points on the road against FC New York and the Harrisburg City Islanders, causing them to leap past the Richmond Kickers and take the second place position in the USL PRO, just three points behind league leader Orlando City. The Kickers' 2-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds aided in the Hammerheads' ranking, leaving Richmond static with 33 points.
The Hammerheads previously met with Los Angeles about a month ago on July 2nd in a fast paced, high scoring match up that resulted in a 4-2 Hammerhead victory. The Blues had a 2-1 lead at halftime, but the Hammerheads' rallied in the second half to score three goals and earn the win.
Since their last meeting with the Blues, the Hammerheads have had six wins and only two losses, while the Blues have had three draws, two wins, and one loss. Currently, the Blues are at 31 points while the Hammerheads are at 39.
Just in the last week the Hammerheads have increased their roster by two, hoping to bring an end-of-the-season surge to take over Orlando's first place position before playoffs. Former Hammerhead forward Chris Bagley has returned to the roster, as well as rookie goalkeeper Matt Williams. Williams joins the team after a season with PDL's Portland Phoenix, the same PDL team that brought Chris Banks, Chris Spendlove, and Paul Nicholson to the Hammerheads.
Fox Soccer will make their second return of the season to Legion Stadium to broadcast the game live. Kickoff is at 7:00pm and gates and the ticket booth will open at 5:30pm. Tickets can be purchased prior to the game on www.wilmingtontickets.com, by calling the Hammerhead office at 910.777.2111 ext 12 before Friday, or at the ticket booth on game day. Fans are encouraged to wear Hammerhead blue to show support for their team!
