Previous Result:
CHI: Chicago beat OL Reign 1-0 with a goal by Mallory Pugh, assisted by Sam Fisher.
WAS: The Spirit lost 0-1 to NJ/NY Gotham FC.
Storylines:
Drawn Out: The Red Stars faced off with the Spirit a week ago. The result of that match was a 1-1 draw, with the Red Stars' Ella Stevens starting the match off with a header in the ninth minute. Chicago kept the score 1-0 until minute 85, when Washington's Sam Staab tied it up off a free-kick set piece. Both teams have played one match since they faced off last week at Segra Field, and both teams will surely be reaching deep into their bench for this match.
Home Field Advantage: The Red Stars have managed to gain at least one point in the NWSL standings from each match they've played at home. Despite only playing three matches in Bridgeview, the Red Stars have won two matches and tied with Portland. This leaves the Red Stars standing third overall in the league.
Breaks? Don't Need 'Em: This is the fourth match the Red Stars have played in two weeks. Usually, the league schedule allows 6-7 days between matches. Despite the short recovery times, the Red Stars haven't let up, tying or coming out on top in all of the last three matches, including their last match against Washington. With their win against OL Reign, the team shows no sign of slowing down in the lead up to Wednesday.
