Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox News Release
The Marysville Gold Sox took Game 2 of a three-game series against theChico Heat Official 9 - 7 after an improbable comeback last night at Colusa Casino Stadium. The win keeps the Gold Sox in sole possession of first place in the Great West League with a 20 - 10 record.
"This was one of the most amazing wins I've seen in person," said General Manager Michael Mink. "Our guys never give up, and this win proves to them that they are not out of any game, no matter the score. We'll do anything to get a win in front of our hometown crowd, and they were supporting us every step of the way as we fought back."
The Sox dug themselves into a large hole early, trailing by as many as six runs before the improbable, two-out comeback started. Going into the bottom of the eighth inning, the Sox were down 7 - 1 with two outs, but they managed to string together eight runs in a row before the inning ended.
With runners on first and second and two outs, Steven Mercado and Jed Sprague delivered back to back RBI hits to cut the lead to 7 - 4. Then Austin Call, T.J. Dove, Dalton DeVries and Chris Papapietro hit four consecutive singles to give Marysville an 8 - 7 lead. The Sox got the final run when DeVries ran home on a wild pitch giving them the 9 - 7 lead which they would not surrender.
Aiden Kearney and Kyle Merkel combined to close out the game in the top of the ninth inning without much drama.
The Sox now lead the Medford Rogues by 1 1/2 games in the Great West League Standings. They will play the final game of their series against the Heat tonight at 7:05 p.m. A postgame fireworks show by Recology is scheduled for after the game.
