The Marysville Meteors started off this season with a perfect 4-0 record and show no signs of looking back anytime soon. Marysville returns the main pieces from last year's Championship game making team, the Columbus Cyclones. The team seems to have great depth this season and is getting solid production from several sources on this long bench. Newcomer Ish Kamara is currently leading the charge off the bench with a 15ppg average but other players like Kenny Chaffin (6'7''-F), Larry Drake, Shun Jenkins (6'6''-F, college: Ohio St.), Clay McGowen (6'10''-C-81), Justus Thigpen (6'3''-G-70, college: Iowa St.), and JP Maszczak have all had their moments in this young season. The starting interior has been solid with Aaron Turner (6'8''-C-78, college: Xavier) in the middle and Deon Rose giving the team a valued swing presence at the 4 spot. However the key to this team seems to be the three guard starting perimeter unit of Mike Brownlee (6'2''-G-75, college: Charleston), Estaban Weaver (6'4''-G, college: Ohio Dominican), and Charles Warren (6'1''-G, college: Findlay (OH)).
Charles Warren (6'1''-G, college: Findlay (OH)) has opened the season with a 13ppg average and has played very effectively thus far on both sides of the ball. He is a high percentage shooter who also is an able creator.
Estaban Weaver has begun this season seemingly on a mission. He has a 30ppg average in the Meteors four wins and a low of 27points. Consistent production of this high level for the remainder of the season is not out of the question for a player once ranked as the #1 H.S. player in the Nation at one time. With an offensive arsenal that virtually has no weaknesses, Estaban Weaver should be a prime target for an overseas job next autumn.
Team leader Mike Brownlee's stock has risen to the point that he is considered one of the best point guards in the entire IBL and it looks as if his winning ways will continue on in Marysville. Brownlee looks to get the monkey off his back and win his first IBL championship as he has led the Columbus Cyclones and the Dayton Jets into title games the last two seasons. Averaging 27ppg 8apg, Mike hasnt lost a step and looks focused as ever.
The Marysville Meteors defeated Tennessee 146-116 in the IBL's first game of the year behind a 31point effort from Estaban Weaver. The Meteors displayed incredible balance as 9 players scored between 7points and 16points and all 12 scored in this opener.
Marysville beat Tennessee again to the tune of 125-118. Estaban Weaver and Mike Brownlee led with 27points and 34points as Shun Jenkins{10pts} and Ish Kamara{12pts} rounded out the double figure scorers.
In their third game of the season, Marysville won versus Lansing 158-138. Brownlee and Weaver both scored 30points each andthe rest of the Meteors again displayed the trademark balanced scoring with 9 players between 5points and 13points. Ish Kamara had 23points.
Next Marysville defeated Tennessee a third time 128-123. Weaver had his customary 30points again, Brownlee scored 22points with 7 assists, and Charles Warren added 14points. Deon Rose scored 16points to go with 9 rebounds and Larry Drake{21points} and Clay McGowen{10points;8rebounds} both contributed big games as well.
Next The Marysville Meteors face The Grand Rapids Flight and 7'9" Ming Ming Sun (7'8''-C-83, agency: Passing Lane) on Sunday March 25th at home!
