Marysville Gold Sox to Host Wood Bat Tournament

Colusa Casino Stadium is home to the Marysville Gold Sox during the summer months, but late this May it will host the Under 14 Wood Bat Classic, a new tournament to showcase local, young ballplayers.
From May 20th through 22nd, the best local talent from around the Yuba-Sutter area will compete for a championship in the first ever Wood Bat Classic. The tournament will be a chance for little leaguers to play on the same field as some of the best college players in America and experience playing under the stadium lights. The Tournament will feature teams from Chico, Sierra Valley, Lincoln and Yuba-Sutter.
The opening game will take place on Friday May 20th at 6 p.m. with the Lincoln Tribe playing the Chico Aces 14U. The Nightcap will feature our hometown Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox against the Chico Aces Red squad. "This will be a great opportunity to just enjoy the game of baseball and get on the diamond for the first time," said GM Michael Mink.
The Marysville Gold Sox have been hard at work getting Colusa Casino Stadium ready for Opening Night and are on track to finish by first pitch on June 3rd. The wood bat tournament will be the first time the public can experience some of the newly renovated areas at the stadium which sports two brand new batting cages and a newly renovated infield.
After the Wood Bat Classic, the Gold Sox will set their sights on preparing the Opening Night festivities. The action will start with an opening day parade and ribbon cutting followed by a matchup with the preseason favorite Chico Heat. Tickets for the opening night game are available now on the Gold Sox website and first pitch will be at 7:05 p.m.
