Marshals Sign Mason Mantle from NTCC

May 13, 2014 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL) - Texas Marshals News Release

The Texas Marshals of the Texas Collegiate League have added infielder Mason Mantle from Northeast Texas Community College to the 2014 summer roster. Mason is a third cousin to former New York Yankee's great Mickey Mantle.

"It's pretty cool to have a relative of the great Mickey Mantle on our team this summer," stated Kenderick Moore, the Marshals General Manager. "Mason has a bright future ahead of him in the game of baseball based on his talents alone, not just his last name."

Mantle, a sophomore at NTCC, is a versatile player that can play any position in the infield. Mantle played shortstop in the Texas/New Mexico All-Start Game as a member of the Region XIV East Team this past fall.

Mantle, a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, hit .233 this spring at NTCC with four doubles, two home runs, 17 RBIs, 17 runs scored, 12 walks, and five stolen bases while primarily playing first base.

Mantle, who is listed at 5'11" and 185 pounds, has signed with Oral Roberts University to continue his education and collegiate playing career next fall.

"Mason is a great athlete and will most likely see action at several different positions this summer," stated Moore. "He's got a lot of pop in his bat and will most likely factor somewhere in the middle of our lineup."

Mickey Mantled played 18 seasons for the New York Yankees and is widely regarded as the greatest switch hitter of all time. Mantle is a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. He won the Triple Crown in 1956, was a three-time American League Most Valuable Player, and a seven-time World Series Champion.

The Marshals will open the 2014 season at home on Thursday, May 29 against the East Texas Pump Jacks. Game time will be 7:05pm at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas.

Season tickets for all 30 of the Marshals home games this season are on sale now. Fans can buy season tickets by calling 855-808-7529.
