Marshals Shutout Generals 3-0
The Texas Marshals shutout the Victoria Generals 3-0 on Saturday night in Victoria behind another stellar pitching performance by Austin Hilton. The right-hander allowed just four hits in the game and struck out five to earn his first win of the season.
The Marshals took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI groundout by Carlos Contreras to score Daniel Rushing and an RBI infield single by Chase Daughdrill to score Casey Mullennix.
The score remained that way until the top of the seventh when Jace Reese singled home Mullennix to extend the Marshals lead to 3-0.
Jake Smith tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out two. Nick Palacios came on in relief of Smith in the bottom of the ninth after the Generals put runners on first and second base with one out. Palacios got the next two batters to strike out to end the game and pick up his second save of the season.
Mullennix and Reese each had three hits in the game for the Marshals.
With the win, the Marshals improve their winning streak to a season-high three games and are now 7-17 on the season. The Generals fall to 19-8 with the loss.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday night in Victoria starting at 7:35pm at Riverside Stadium.
