Marshals Add Two Pitchers from LSU-Shreveport

May 7, 2014 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL) - Texas Marshals News Release

Following the addition of LSU-Shreveport standouts Oliver Christensen and Caleb Killian last week, the Texas Marshals of the Texas Collegiate League have added two more players from the Pilots' 2014 roster to the team this summer.

Brandon Texiera and Jonathan Lycan, both right-handed pitchers, will join Christensen, Killian, and Marshals' first-year head coach, Brent Lavallee, in Dallas this summer after the conclusion of LSU-Shreveport's postseason run. The Pilots (42-16) are headed to the NAIA playoffs which begin next week.

"The addition of Brandon and Jonathan gives our pitching staff two more quality arms to add to the mix," stated Lavallee. "They are both great young men on and off of the field and will represent the Marshals well this summer."

Brandon Texiera, a native of Coral Springs, Florida, has appeared in 15 games for LSU-Shreveport this season, posting a 2-0 record with one save and a 2.63 ERA. The right-handed freshman has recorded 17 strikeouts in 24 innings of work.

Texiera gives the Marshals another durable arm with the option of using him as a starter or reliever this summer. Texiera may be called upon to serve as the team's closer this summer due to his ability to give consistent quality appearances while attacking hitters with his electric arm.

"I look forward to seeing Brandon in a summer league atmosphere," commented Lavallee. "He thrives on the big game competition and really enjoys coming to the yard every day. If he can use this summer as a stepping stone in his career, there is no reason for him not to play professionally in the future."

Jonathan Lycan, a native of Anderson, Indiana, is currently redshirting at LSU-Alexandria after spending two seasons at Three Rivers Community College. Lycan earned All-Conference honors as a freshman at Three Rivers after posting a 6-2 record with a 3.62 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 49.2 innings.

Lycan, a junior right-hander, followed up a solid freshman campaign by posting a 3-4 record as a sophomore at Three Rivers with a 3.25 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 55.1 innings.

"Jonathan will get the chance to be in the Marshals starting rotation this summer and I think he will flourish in that role," Lavallee mentioned. "He truly enjoys pitching and the competition that comes with it. We are expecting big things from him this summer."

The Marshals will open the 2014 season at home on Thursday, May 29 against the East Texas Pump Jacks. Game time will be 7:05pm at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas.

Season tickets for all 30 of the Marshals home games this season are on sale now. Fans can buy season tickets by calling 855-808-7529.
