SPOKANE, Washington - The Empire has announced the addition of Assistant Coach Marquise Liverpool to the team's football operations staff in preparation for the 2017 Indoor Football League season.
Marquise will join the Empire for his first year as a professional indoor football coach. In 2012, he played for Empire Head Coach Adam Shackleford during the 2012 IFL season in Tri-Cities where he saw action in 13 regular season games and recorded 48 total tackles (30 solos), three interceptions, and nine pass break-ups. Before joining the IFL, Marquise spent time with the NFL's Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent.
"Marquise is one of the best front-side corners I have ever coached. His defensive instincts made him a force during my Conference Championship year in Tri-Cities," said Empire Head Coach Adam Shackleford. "I recruit great athletes to play, and every once in a while you see a young man's ability to be a difference maker as a coach after their career on the field is over. Marquise is that young man."
During his collegiate football career at Temple University (PA), Marquise started 25 of the 49 games he played in. His 25 starts over his four years were at multiple positions including running back, wide receiver, and defensive back. He was named the team's 2010 Special Teams MVP and received Honorable Mention All-Mid-Atlantic Conference recognition during his final two seasons (2009, 2010) by Phil Steele. Marquise graduated from Temple with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice and a Minor in Business.
Before attending Temple, Marquise was drafted by Seattle in Round 33 of the 2004 MLB's First-Year Player Draft. He went on to spend three years within the Mariners organization which included spring training in the Arizona League (AZL) in 2005. In 2006, Marquise spent time with the Tacoma Rainiers of the Pacific Coast League and the San Antonio Missions of the Texas League before again playing in the AZL. During his final season in 2007, he played in seven games for the Mariners' Short-A affiliate the Everett AquaSox of the Northwest League.
Marquise is originally from Teaneck, New Jersey where he played his prep career at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, NJ. Before graduating in 2004, he received SuperPrep All-American honors as a wide receiver and was ranked the 23rd best receiver in the nation as a Tom Lemming All-East selection. Marquise was also a three-star prospect and was ranked as the 20th best defensive back in the nation by Rivals. He helped his high school to two football state titles and was recognized as a two-time First Team All-State performer and received All-County, All-North Jersey, and All-League honors.
While residing in New Jersey, Marquise was an assistant coach at River Dell Regional High School and helped the team to a State Championship appearance in 2011.
Since ending his playing career after his time with the Fever, Marquise has resided in West Richland, Washington where he is the owner and founder of Northwest Advantage Baseball and Softball Training LLC. For more information about his training programs you can visit their Facebook page.
